Professional


Mark joined Skoubye Nielson & Johansen, LLC in 2015. His practice includes the following areas:

Bankruptcy: Mark helps families, couples, and individuals wipe out past debts (Chapter 7 liquidation) or reorganize their debts (Chapter 13 reorganization).

Construction: Mark represents owners, developers, general contractors, and subcontractors with lien issues (enforcing or removing), construction defect disputes, contract drafting, and collections.

General and Commercial Litigation and Transactional Work: Mark helps individuals and businesses resolve many types of legal issues including contract disputes, business disputes, employment disputes, and collections.  Mark also helps individuals and businesses document their agreements with sound contracts, leases, promissory notes, and other legal documents.

Property / Real Estate: Mark represents individuals and businesses with various residential and commercial real property issues including: boundary disputes; easement disputes; ownership disputes; property leases, sales, and transfers; evictions (representing residential and commercial landlords and tenants); and contract drafting.

Transportation / Trucking: Mark represents motor carriers, brokers, owner-operators, shippers, and warehouses with contract disputes, contract drafting, liability issues, regulatory issues, and collections.

Additional Experience: Prior to joining Skoubye Nielson & Johansen, LLC, Mark practiced at the firm Smith & Glauser, P.C. primarily in the areas of insurance defense, construction defects, and personal injury litigation. This followed a judicial clerkship for the Hon. Karen Lansing at the Idaho Court of Appeals.  During law school, Mark worked or interned for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah, the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association, the Utah Third District Court, and Utah Legal Services.

Education


In 2011, Mark received his J.D. with High Honors from the University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he was a William H. Leary Scholar, a Quinney Student Fellow, and an articles editor for the Utah Environmental Law Review. While there, he received a number of other awards for academic achievement and pro-bono legal service in the community. Mark graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. in English and a B.S. in Sociology.

Admissions


Mark is a member of the Utah State Bar and is admitted to practice in both state and federal court. He is a member of the Litigation and Construction Law Sections of the Utah State Bar Association.

Mark is from Salt Lake City. He and his wife have five children.
